If you’re on the lookout for an off the shelf laptop that runs Ubuntu, I picked up a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop from Tescos yesterday – dual T3400, 2Gb RAM, Intel GMA graphics, Broadcom BCM4312 wireless, a nice matt black finish. Not bad for £349.00. Installed Jaunty without issue and all the hardware works out of the box (although the Broadcom uses proprietry drivers).

That one on the left, right? Inspiron 15n? Probably my next laptop. I plan to put a 30GB OCZ Vertex in it.. I’d like to know what the touchpad is capable of, I hope it can do multitouch gestures with three fingers..

I’ve heard of it being done but couldn’t tell you how to go about doing it – Dell offers the 15 series with Ubuntu pre-installed (from the US site – the UK site is not particularly helpful) for around the same price though.
If anyone has done it or knows how to go about it, I’d be interested to hear.

Well i got the Dell inspirion 1545 with 160gb hd and 4 gb ram with the ubuntu so hope it does well….LOL..

hey guys got myself into a jam here got internet but its never constant tried to ping the server but it times out constantly if not after 8 to 10 ping replies any suggessions
