I’m an Avionics technician in my mid-thirties. A keen runner, I like being outdoors but also enjoy learning and have been an Open University student since 2008. Having been interested in computing since I was a kid, my study goal is a BSc (Honours) Computing and IT (B62). Interested in education, I’m currently I’m the Open University Student Association regional representative for Ipswich and am on the Assembly in the East of England. I also do a little moderating on the OU Cafe forum for TU100.
Aside from programming (I’m working my way through Project Euler at the moment), I’m interested in Open Source Software. Having used Linux since 1995 (Slackware 3.0), I used Ubuntu for a number of years. I have worked on the Documentation Team for some years, especially in networking, internet and switching. I developed the team logo and the beginners playbook. I was lucky enough to get Ubuntu membership but left the team a couple of years ago.
I run daily, mainly for distance (I can’t recommend Bob Glover’s Runners Handbook highly enough).
Enjoying video games since I was a kid, I play a fair bit of PS3 – I’m DougieWougie on PSN, I quite like MW3 for a quick game but prefer titles like Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire and Assassin’s Creed. I read a lot, Kindle has encouraged that recently – my reading list is here. I’ve also sketched for years, I like pencil and really must put some scans up here one day – perhaps I’ll get around to it tomorrow (the procrastinator’s mantra).
